Madagascar vanilla extract, 5-fold
This 5-fold vanilla extract holds 500 g of Bourbon vanilla beans in every litre: five times the vanilla of a standard single-fold extract. Available with alcohol, or as an alcohol-free version, in 1 L bottles and 5 L jerrycans.
500 g of vanilla beans per litre
A standard single-fold extract is made with about 100 g of vanilla beans per litre. Our 5-fold extract uses 500 g per litre, measured on beans at no more than 25% moisture: when beans are wetter, we add more of them so the vanilla content stays the same. Each batch is recorded with the weight and moisture of the beans used, so the fold can be verified.
In practice, one litre of 5-fold does the work of five litres of single-fold extract: lower dosage, less volume to ship and store.
Why split and short beans make excellent extract
We make this extract from Bourbon beans that are split, short or not uniform enough to be sold as whole display beans. Appearance matters on a retail shelf, not in an extraction vat: these beans come from the same traditionally cured harvest and carry the same aromatic compounds as our whole beans. Using them for extract is what keeps a 5-fold extract at this price.
